We have had several requests from our customers to offer the base metals so we thought we'd start with copper and nickel. Though not rare by any stretch, these metals have critical industrial uses and a long history of monetary use. Both of these metals were crucial to the war effort and were substituted with other metals in the pennies and nickels produced during World War II. In 1982 with the price of the copper increasing and requiring more than a penny's worth to make a penny, the U.S. mint substituted copper plated zinc and has ever since. Some speculate that our country's 5 cent coin may have a similar fate as its 75% copper, 25% nickel components become more valuable than its face amount. We will offer these metals as one avoirdupois ounce coins bearing our logo. Our planned release is early Spring.
